Getting started

Prompts & competitors

How to choose the prompts aeotime tracks, organise them with tags, add competitors and aliases, and stay within your prompt limit.

One prompt, the searches behind it · illustrative

A prompt is a question aeotime asks every AI engine on your behalf, such as "What's the best invoicing app for freelancers?". A competitor is a brand you want to be measured against.

Choosing good prompts

Track the questions a buyer asks before choosing a product like yours:

  • Category questions: "best [category] for [audience]", "top [category] tools in 2026".
  • Comparisons: "[you] vs [competitor]", "[competitor] alternatives".
  • Problem questions: "how to [job your product does]".
  • Brand questions: "is [you] good for [use case]?", "[you] pricing".

Write them the way people talk to an assistant — full sentences work better than keyword fragments.

Adding prompts

Open Prompts in your project. You can:

  • Add one — type the prompt, optional tags, market and persona.
  • Bulk add — paste up to 500 prompts, one per line. Duplicates are skipped.
  • From Search Console — turn real search queries into prompts (needs Search Console).
  • Other markets & personas — copy prompts to another country or buyer persona (details).

Tags, pausing and bulk actions

Tags group prompts (for example pricing, comparison, enterprise) and filter the prompts table. Select several prompts to tag, untag, pause, activate or delete them at once.

Your prompt limit

Your plan sets how many prompts can be active across all projects in the workspace: 250 on the aeotime plan and 500 on Agency. The bar at the top of the Prompts page shows current use. The same question tracked in two markets counts as two prompts.

Competitors and aliases

Open Competitors to add, remove or edit brands. For each one you can add:

  • Domain — so citations of their site are attributed to them.
  • Aliases — other names and product names, so every mention is caught.

After runs, aeotime may suggest new competitors that engines keep mentioning. Suggested brands aren't counted in metrics until you confirm them.

Questions

How many prompts do I need?

Enough to cover how buyers ask about your category. For most brands 30 to 100 well-chosen prompts give a clear picture; add more for more products, markets or personas.

Do paused prompts count toward my limit?

No. Only active prompts count. Paused prompts keep their history.
